Senior Systems Administrator - Level 3

The Senior System Administrator will be responsible for the maintenance, administration, and troubleshooting of the Windows server and VMware environments. They will handle primarily the provisioning & decommissioning of Windows physical and virtual servers, and perform routine monitoring checks to ensure that they are operational and performing adequately. They will utilize various tools to review the health of the guest operation systems and ESXi hosts, their workloads, and recommend any adjustments that need to be made to improve performance. They will coordinate with the application teams to keep them up to date with MS Security patches and handle all upgrades and updates to them based on agreed upon maintenance windows. They will implement changes and/or new features to support and secure the Windows and VMware infrastructure based on direction and guidance from the Server Engineering team.
 
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES 
  • Perform systems administration of desktop and server systems connected to local and wide area networks. Desktop system management responsibilities involving account monitoring, security, Operating System (OS) installation, and other local area system administration related functions
  • Provide support for implementation, troubleshooting and maintenance of IT systems
  • Manage IT system infrastructure and any processes related to these systems
  • Provide support to IT systems including day-to-day operations, monitoring and problem resolution for all of the client/server/storage/network devices, mobile devices, etc.
  • Provide Tier 2 and Tier 3 problem identification, diagnosis and resolution of problem
  • Provide support for the escalation and communication of status to agency management and internal customers
  • Provide support for the dispatch system and hardware problems and remains involved in the resolution process
  • Configure and manage UNIX/RedHat and Windows operating systems
  • Install/load operating system and application software
  • Isolate and resolve of hardware and software problems involving the applications, the operating system, the hardware, the communications infrastructure, or any combination thereof
  • Integrate new technologies into new and existing systems including the transition and migration of corporate systems
 
Preferred Experience with the following:
  • VMware vSphere 5/6 administration
  • Microsoft Operating Systems (Windows Server 2012, Windows XP/7, etc.)
  • Active Directory (2012) group policies design and implementation
  • Implementing and supporting Microsoft SCCM
  • Working knowledge of server hardware (RAID, clustering, virtualization, etc.)
  • TCP/IP protocol; DHCP; DNS; etc
  • Microsoft SQL 2008/2012 and MySQL administration a plus
  • PowerShell a plus
  • Understanding of IT Security best practices to meet DOD STIGs
 
Required Qualifications:
  • 5-8 years of directly related experience in systems administration and analysis.
  • High School Diploma/GED with 10 years of related experience, or Associate’s Degree with 8 years of experience, or Bachelor’s Degree with 6 years of experience, or Master’s Degree with 4 years of experience
 
 
Desirable Skills / Experience:
  • Ability to provide in-depth experience in trouble-shooting IT systems
  • Be able to provide detailed analysis and feedback to agency management and internal customers for escalated tickets
 
Certification(s):
  • DoD 8570.01-M IAT Level II Computing Environment (CE) Certification as determined by the Program Manager is required prior to support on contract
  • Required Security Environment Certification: CompTIA Security+ CE or equivalent
  • Required Computing Environment certification: MCSA Server 2012 (70-410) or higher (must pass exam prior to start, 180 days to complete the entire certification)
  • Desires certifications: Solaris 10, Linux+, VCP5, etc.

Travel may be required in support of the customer's mission requirements
